Auckley woman, Linda Carlo is making a real splash with her fundraising efforts to raise cash for seaf children.
Linda, who set herself a challenge to swim 250 miles is edging closer to her target and has raised her fundraising goal yet again thanks to receiving kind donations.
“I’ve been amazed how generous everyone is and after initially setting myself a £2,500 fundraising target, I increased the amount and have recently increased it again to £5,000,” said Linda.
The kind hearted swimmer, aged 57, is undertaking her challenge at Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust run Armthorpe Leisure Centre, swimming five times a week to stay on target for the charity challenge, which she says was inspired by one of the famous Osmonds musical family. She will be swimming her final mile on August 2 this year.
Swimmers from across the borough are being invited to swim a mile with Linda on Saturday July 23 at 5pm to help to raise vital funds for The Hearing Fund UK. Participants are being asked to either donate £5 to the charity on the day of the swim for taking part, or get sponsorship from friends and family for taking part. An official sponsor form can be sent by email by contacting Linda at email@example.com.
She decided on the swim after losing eight stones, as a way of keeping the weight off for good and it was Justin Osmond, son of Merrill Osmond from the 70s family supergroup who gave her the idea in the first place.
She said: “I am amazed by the support I have received so far on my challenge and am now looking for others to join me in swimming a mile and raising sponsorship by taking part on Saturday July 23 Even if a mile is too far for some, it would be wonderful if people would be willing to be sponsored for any distance achieved.
“I taught many hundreds of people in Doncaster to swim over the past two decades and it would be great to see past students coming back to join me.”
Backing Linda in her Swim a Mile challenge and showing their support will be DCLT Chief Executive Michael Hart and members of the management team.
Michael said: “What Linda is doing is simply fantastic. She is a real inspiration and her fundraising efforts have kept her going through her tough swimming challenge.
“We are delighted to be able to join her and would encourage as many people as possible to take to the pool and swim a mile on July 23.”
The Hearing Fund UK raises awareness and support of deaf children and their families in the UK and which Justin Osmond is president of.
