GAINSBOROUGH residents and motorists are being urged to be vigilant and careful after a spate of vehicle crime in the town.

Motorists are being asked to make sure they never leave any valuables in their cars and to make sure they are locked when they are left unattended.

The police warning comes after a number of incidents in the town over the last few weeks.

Overnight between Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd January, thieves got into an unlocked Transit van and tried to hotwire it, but their attempt was unsuccessful.

Then at around 5.40pm on Monday 31st January, a window was smashed on a Citroen outside the Trinity Arts Centre and a sat nav was stolen.

Windows on cars in Danes Road, Acacia Avenue, The Avenue, Hawthorn Avenue and Beckett Avenue were all smashed overnight between Monday 31st January and Tuesday 1st February.

The cars were searched but nothing was taken.

Lincolnshire Police say that patrols have been stepped up in the area and a number of arrests have already been made, but officers want people to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity immediately.

Anyone with any information on these crimes or who witnesses anything suspicious can call Lincolnshire Police on 0300 111 0300.

Alternately, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
