ONE of Gainsborough’s most popular live music venues and restaurants is to close to move to a different site.
The Sands Venue on Lord Street was closed as of Monday 30th May in order to move premises to the larger site of The State Building.
A spokeman from the Sands said that the State Building will undergo an extensive refurbishment and massive transformation to turn it from a nightclub into entertainment venue and restaurant.
“The new venue will follow the same style of décor and music as the current Sands Venue and will re-open in May 2012,” he said.
“It will still be reminiscent of the forties and fifties with starlit ceiling, candlelit tables and stylish décor but on a much grander scale.”
He continued: “The venue will continue its dedication to hosting a whole range of entertainment from the finest tribute bands to top named jazz artists and much more, offering something for all music tastes and appealing to all age generations too.”
“The cuisine will be traditionally British with a subtle international twist.”
Venue owner Peter Swann said: “I would personally like to thank everyone for their support over the last seven years and we are very much looking forward to welcoming you all back in 2012 at bigger and better venue.”
Peter also said that he has plans for The Old Town Hall which is where The Sands is currently located, and it will become a steak house restaurant and late night drinking venue.
The Sands would like anyone with any ideas and suggestions for acts that you would like to see at The Sands next year to email firstname.lastname@example.org.
