Bassetlaw: Hospital directors’ pay revealed

Directors at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Trust took home over £1 million in salaries in the last financial year, an annual report has shown.

The salary bands released in the trust’s report shows £1.04-£1.13 million given to 17 senior managers.

The five highest-paid directors accounted for more than half the total, with an average salary of over £110,000.

Medical director Sewa Singh earned around £150,000. Mr Singh also pocketed at least £60,000 for clinical duties.

In comparison, the average wage for trust staff was slightly less than £22,000 - just over one tenth of Mr Singh’s combined payments.

Of the managers who received payments, only 12 remain on the payroll as the NHS Trust attempts to make cuts.

These include chairman Chris Scholey and five non-executive directors.

If no further changes are made, the senior management wage bill will be slashed by around one third next year.

Some of the funds will be used to employ more nurses, a trust spokesperson said.

The trust has been recruiting since the summer.

Bassetlaw MP John Mann said: “We need a hospital that is well run, providing the best treatment available for all patients, and we need a hospital that local people have confidence in.”

“This is the only basis on which I judge Bassetlaw Hospital and the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospital Trust”
