THE News was informed by a reliable source yesterday that a large, modern supermarket will replace Bomers’ 200-year-old drapery and millinery shop now being demolished.

The market would be built on to the frontage of the existing premises which will be left intact, said the source. Architects were on the site this week and officials of the demolition firm are expected shortly to inspect the progress of the break-up work.

There has been a great deal of speculation and secrecy over the Bomers’ deal. From the outset everything was “hush-hush” and no details of development of the building were available.

At the present rate the demolition deadline of March should be met.
