MARSHALLS and Roses sports facilities are a step nearer being saved for Gainsborough.

More than 300 people attended a public meeting at the Town Hall on Wednesday evening to discuss the future of the two sports fields, called by West Lindsey District Council.

Nearly every hand in the hall went up in favour of the council buying both grounds and retaining their facilities for the town.

It was the commitment the council needed to continue negotiations that have been going on for nine months between council chief executive Andrew Hancock with Roses’ agents and the receivers at Marshalls. Mr Hancock believed the facilities would become self-financing.
