Those Were The Days - Popular cruises on the Trent

Packet Landing Stage
Packet Landing Stage

THIS week we feature a photo of the packet landing stage at Gainsborough, probably taken in the early years of last century.

It looks as though the boat is giving pleasure cruises along the River Trent and, judging by the number of people in the vessel and along the riverside, it was popular with the good folk of Gainsborough.

With regard to the picture of the rowers on the River Trent in our 17th May issue, we are grateful to the ex-secretary of the Gainsborough Rowing Club Mr W. Rogers who has identified all the people in the boat.

They are (from the left): Ian Jennings (bowman), Bill Pettit, Lou Smith, Bill Periam (stroke), Bill Leonard (cox).
