Those Were The Days: Looking down Bridge Street

IT’S back to the 1950s again with this shot of a near-deserted Bridge Street looking northwards.

Just one pedestrian can be seen walking down the street, this part of which has seen many changes over the past 50 or so years.

The building on the left hand side of the picture still houses the United Services Club and the dental practice but the houses next to it have all been demolished.

Gone, too, is the white building on the right which was the Cross Keys public house (one of many in the street at that time) and beyond that further down the street was a small shop which had been a cobbler’s and even a sweet shop in the early part of the 20th Century.
