Bassetlaw Community Outreach is a scheme that offers help, advice, and information for people over 50, to help them remain safe and independent in their own home.
The Community Outreach Advisor can visit older people in their own homes and offer advice and information on a number of local services. For more information, contact Louise Hallam, Community Outreach Advisor at the Bassetlaw Action Centre, on 01777 709650 or email@example.com.
Home Book Service
The local Books on Wheels service is looking to see if there is anyone in the area who would benefit from having books brought to them in their own home. This is a fortnightly service by RVS volunteers. Contact Misterton Library on 890646 if you’re interested—or know someone who might be.
Misterton’s village gala is on Saturday 4th July at Misterton Sports Social Club from 12noon-5pm. Once again, there will be a programme of live music, arena attractions, stalls, children’s activities, and food and drink. And this year, as the Gala falls on the USA’s Independence Day, there will be a fancy dress competition with an American theme. If you’d like to contribute to this year’s gala, in any of these areas, please contact:
· Music — John on 891991
· Arena display — Tracey on 891503
· Stall — Nikki on 891629
· Children’s activities — Liz on 891991.
If you can spare an hour or two to help on the gate, call Rick on 891376. Other offers of help are appreciated: call Hazel on 891376.
The organising team also invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals and organisations able to provide the catering service. A specification has been agreed and includes such items as burgers and hot dogs, sandwiches, cakes, and tea and coffee. Anyone interested should request a copy of the specification by Friday 13th February: call Hazel on 891376.
Reward an Achiever?
Achievers Awards are presented annually to Bassetlaw residents who are serving their community, or for sport or group activities, or to note those who have overcome adversity to lead a normal life.
Applications are sought for the 2015 Award Ceremony. If you know of someone living in Misterton, who, in your opinion, meets these criteria and you would like to nominate them, please contact District Cllr Hazel Brand on 891376 (or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org) by Monday 16th February. The Achievers Awards are presented in March in the newly-refurbished ballroom at Retford Town Hall; nominees and guests are invited to the award ceremony, which includes refreshments. Transport can be arranged, if necessary.
