STREET lights and barriers along the full length of Gainsborough’s Thorndike Way have been recommended to transport chiefs as a means of saving lives along the dual carriageway.

The measures were suggested by Coun Maurice French at a Northern Area Transportation Sub-committee meeting as a way of protecting people who refused to protect themselves.

People living on the uphill estates of Gainsborough insisted on walking along the side of the carriageway to get into the town centre and crossing the 70mph road to get from Middlefield Lane estate to the opposite Park Springs estate instead of using the subways provided and there have already been two deaths.
