PUPILS at Gainsborough’s Hillcrest Community Infant School have seen the sights and sounds of the Second World War.

The Take Away Theatre Company delivered a play which follows a young girl and her family from war being declared to the victory celebrations.

“It was quite emotive and didn’t shy away from the difficult subjects,” said head teacher Julie McDonald.

The performance was a pre-half term treat, after which Years 1 and 2 will start a Second World War Project.

Mrs McDonald added: “History has got to be practical at this age so the actors passed around artifacts and had the children singing to the White Cliffs of Dover.”
