Tales of life below stairs at big house

life in the Victorian kitchens of a country house will be brought to life by an actress and storyteller.

Nicky Rafferty will be playing the part of the housekeeper at Rufford Abbey, sharing gossip and stories about life in the Big House.

The hour-long performances will be held in the Savile Restaurant.

Nicky, 45, said: “I’ve called the housekeeper Mary Guscott and set it in 1904, which is when King Edward VII visited.”

“I did mountains of research and interviewed so many people who had worked there. It’s been a privilege and I’ll use personal anecdotes.”

“It’s interactive so the audience can ask me questions if they want”

Tales and Tea will be held on 25th July and 1st August, 3.30pm-5pm. The price £5 adults, £3 children and £15 for a family of four, includes a cream tea or children’s picnic. Book on 01623 821310.
