THURCROFT training band are continuing to receive great support from their local councillors.

Councillors Richard Russell, Geb Nightingale, John Swift and Denise Lettiott visited the band room recently to hear the rehearsal in progress and to present the band with a new cornet.

Tom Walker received the new instrument on behalf of the band.

Musical director Ken Vernon said: “The band is very grateful for the continuing support from local councillors.”

“The band is going from strength to strength at the moment, and having new instruments means that more children or adults can join and learn how to play without having the expense of providing their own instrument.”

“This makes the band accessible to everyone who has an interest in learning to play an instrument and being part of a good band.”

The band plays regularly in the local community and had success recently at the Worksop Music and Drama Festival. The training band was placed first in the Ensemble Section on 17th March.

Georgia Green who was placed first in the Under 12 Brass Solo Section and her sister Charlotte was placed 2nd in the Under 16 Brass Solo Section.

The band meets every Saturday morning at 9.30am in the band room.

New members, of any age and ability, are always welcome to attend.
