Gainsborough Musical Theatre Society are going back to 1920s New York this month when they present Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Trinity Arts Centre.

The story centres on Millie Dillmount and Dorothy Brown who are just two of the girls living at the Priscilla Hotel for Single Young Ladies .

Dorothy is a naive, old-fashioned girl from a seemingly privileged background who dreams of being an actress.

Millie , meantime, used to be old fashioned, but now has modern thinking , a modern look, and wants to be a stenographer with a quick ‘promotion’ to becoming her boss’ better half.

She believes she’s found the right employer in the form of chisel-jawed Trevor Graydon of the Sincere Trust Insurance Company.

Millie’s pursuit of Mr Graydon is despite the fact that Mr Graydon sees her as one of the boys.

Love is not in the equation for Millie, despite the interest of happy-go-lucky Jimmy.

But then she meets the wealthy Muzzy Van Hossmere, who tries to convince her that only true love will lead to happiness.

Meanwhile, Dorothy leaves New York without a word to anyone except Mrs Meers. Thinking this situation rather odd, Millie and Jimmy try to find out what has happend to Dorothy.

The show runs from 28th April to 2nd May at 7.30pm each night, plus a Saturday matinee at 2pm.

Tickets priced £12.50 (£10.50 concessions) are available now from the box office on 01427 676655.
