A sure sign that Christmas is coming is when the festive treat that is The Nutcracker is performed in theatres across the land.
And in Gainsborough, Trinity Arts Centre is bringing this classic ballet to life on the big screen with an encore screening of the world-renowned Bolshoi Ballet’s production from Moscow.
On Christmas Eve, Marie’s Christmas is transformed by a visit from Drosselmeyer, a mysterious magician and maker of magical toys. Drosselmeyer longs to break a curse that has turned his nephew into a nutcracker doll.
The nutcracker doll is transformed into a beautiful prince who takes Marie on a magical journey.
But before they can leave, they must confront the Mouse King, whose army is threatening Marie.
Christmas would not be complete without the enchanting tale of young Marie and her nutcracker prince.
As famous for Tchaikovsky’s memorable score as it is for the dancing itself, The Nutcracker features pieces like Waltz of the Snowflakes and The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Danced by the Bolshoi’s principals, Russian ballet Master Yuri Grigorovich’s staging of ETAHoffmann’s fairy tale will transport children and adults alike to a world of magic and wonder for the holiday season.
The encore screening is at Trinity Arts Centre on Sunday, December 18 at 3pm.
