THE LEGENDARY tale of Sherlock Holmes is coming to Gainsborough in a gruesome but hilarious new play – and The Standard have pair of tickets to give away to one lucky reader.

Sherlock Holmes – The Death and Life is a wryly humorous tale, of murder, mystery and the occult in which the world’s greatest detective refuses to leave the stage!’

A fantasy based upon a fiction, the plat finds Conan Doyle tiring of his ‘intolerably arrogant Sherlock Holmes’, and inventing the malevolent Moriarty to dispose of him.

But Doyle’s dangerous strategy, combined with his passion for raising the spirits of the dead, has rather more surreal and dramatic consequences than he bargains for.

After his international success in Sherlock Holmes – The Last Act, Roger Llewellyn returns in this spine tingling new play, written by David Stuart Davies, and directed by Gareth Armstrong with original music by Simon Slater.

Critics have hailed Roger Llewellyn as ‘an actor completely in charge of his material, his stage and his own artistry,’ and said that ‘the vocally impeccable Roger Llewellyn achieves an almost old-fashioned, and certainly rare, symmetry of excellence and entertainment.’

One critic went as far to say ‘Llewellyn’s performance was luminous, intense and a masterclass in the art of holding an audience spellbound. This is focused, insightful and intelligent theatre, performed with the right degree of passion and conviction.’

Sherlock Holmes – the Death and Life is produced and presented by Makin Projects in association with Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, and will be coming to Gainsborough’s Trinity Arts Centre on Friday 25th February.
