ONE of the country’s favourite brass bands is twill be paying a visit to Trinity Arts Centre in Gainsborough for the first time in March.

The East Yorkshire Motor Services Brass Band is renowned for its entertaining and audience-pleasing concerts.

Based in Hull, the band will be conducted by musical director Alan Morrison, the former cornet great with both Grimethorpe and Brighouse & Rastrick bands.

EYMS, having been hailed as ‘the most entertaining band in the UK’, will put on a show which highlights both the lighter side of music, while not forgetting the needs of those who enjoy the traditional brass band favourites.

A rousing march will usher in a well-loved overture and melodies from stage, screen, charts and the classics, while the second half will see a change of lay-out for the EYMS big band experience, with some iconic numbers.

Concert-goers can also expect to hear several of the band’s classy soloists, together with some show-stopping choreography.

It all adds up to a must-see show for the band, which formed in 1989 and quickly achieved a status which sees them today competing in the same sphere as bands with more illustrious history.

Recording with The Beautiful South, performing Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man, appearing as part of Sky TV’s international rugby coverage and featuring on the BBC’s Songs of Praise, are some of the varied highlights in the band’s success story.
