GAINSBOROUGH boss Steve Charles looked back over a two-game Easter period with a mixture of satisfaction and regret after beating Tamworth and losing to Hyde.
The Blues triumphed 1-0 at home against Tamworth on Saturday thanks to a Wes Parker goal, in a win that Charles described as 'deserved'.
"It was a very difficult test for us against a team with plenty of good players in it," he said.
"It was also n
ice for us to get some success from a set piece, which is something we have been working on."
The real high point of drama in the game came when goalkeeper Adam Sollitt was sent off with 20 minutes to go, meaning striker Chris Hall had to take his place in goal and the home side had to face a barrage for the remainder of the game.
"We really were defending for our lives during the last 20 minutes or so," said Charles.
"But at the end of the game we were able to say we had deserved it and had triumphed over a decent side.
"Tamworth went on to beat Stalybridge on the following Monday so they must have some quality."
Sadly, Easter Monday was not as productive for Trinity, as they were thumped 3-0 away at Hyde United.
Charles admitted his side had been outplayed by the classy Greater Manchester outfit for long periods of the game but felt that if certain key moments had gone his side's way, the outcome could have been different.
"Hyde have some excellent players and although they have not been firing recently, I have to admit they played very well against us on Monday.
"Having gone one goal behind, Ryan Mallon had an excellent chance to equalise which, had it gone in, could have changed the entire course of the game.
"Unfortunately it didn't - and after they scored their second they really did start to play well."
"It isn't an excuse, but they had an extra day's rest over us and some of our players were starting to look a little tired."
Going into the next game against Nuneaton on the Northolme this Saturday, Clarke reported that Liam Nimmo will still be missing with his back problem and that Danny Anson and James Dudgeon were both very doubtful with groin injuries.
