Winter chill fails to deter Aegir cyclists

A bitter winter chill greeted Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club as they met for their traditional Christmas Day ride.

The 23 mile ride brought out five hardy riders, namely Trevor Halstead, Dave Day, Paul Reynolds, Geoff Garner and Mark Clark.Morton, the ascent of Wharton Hill, Pilham, Springthorpe, Heapham, Upton, Kexby and Lea were all visited along the route.

A day later, Halstead and Day were back in the saddle, alongside Clark and Dave Walker for a Boxing Day ride to Everton.

Clark went his own way at the Trent Bridge, while Walker headed home over Dunham Bridge at Rampton.

The route took them out to Beckingham then through Saundby, Sturton le Steeple, Cottam, Rampton, Treswell, South and North Leverton, South and North Wheatley, Clayworth, Gringley on the Hill and Everton.

The ride was a pleasant and interesting 42 mile ride.

On Sunday, Daniel Nicholson and Halstead met at Roseway for a cold winter’s morning ride, using salted roads to avoid icy side roads.

The riders set off from Roseway departing town along Beaumont Street, arriving in Lea, before heading to Knaith Park, Kexby, Willingham by Stow, Stow and Sturton by Stow.

Arriving at Till Bridge Lane the ride progressed to Marton, Gate Burton, Knaith and Lea, returning into Gainsborough along Lea Road to complete a cold 20 mile ride.

On Thursday (New Year’s Day) the club will ride to Saxilby to meet up with Lincoln Wheelers for their eight mile time trial.

Meet at Roseway, Gainsborough at 8.50am, for a 30mile ride and dinner at the Anglers Pub.

On 4th January Aegir members will ride to Edwinstowe for dinner at the Major Oak visitors centre.

Meet Roseay at 8.50am for a 60-mile ride, with lights necessary.

New riders and non members are welcome to join the club rides.
