Horrendous weather greeted the Gainsborough and Morton Striders who made the short trip to South Wheatley on Saturday morning to take part in their inaugural 10 mile trail race.

The torrential rain made for slippery, muddy conditions underfoot which only added to the discomfort of the rain soaked competitors.

Strider Wayne Greenfield enjoyed the run more than most as he crossed the finish line in second place, after just over 69 minutes’ effort.

Emma Humphries was also happy with her morning’s work, with her time of 81:08 giving her 11th place overall.

She also lifted the trophy for being the first lady finisher.

Club veterans Phil Kitchen and Norman Hindley took 18th and 34th places respectively, in times of 86:43 and 95:11, with Rhidian Edwards sandwiched between them in 23rd with his 88:05 time.

Lady Striders Vikki Hearn (96:02), Rebecca Cross (100:23) and Nicola Shemwell (139:55) had 36th, 56th and 91st places respectively.

The club’s chairman Glenn Peniston and secretary Chris Litherland had just over 100 minutes to discuss club business as they ran the course together, finishing in 48th and 49th place.

Much better conditions greeted the runners for the Bolsover 10k on Sunday.

Neil Broughton certainly enjoyed them as he finished the race, his 21st of the year, in 56:39.

Only two Striders ventured out on parkruns on Saturday morning, but both would have enjoyed their journeys home.

Mat Huteson was the first finisher at Gainsborough, the sixth time he has achieved this.

The effect of the rain was evident though as his time was over three minutes slower than his best ever.

Meanwhile, at the Lincoln parkrun, Cliff Middleton achieved his personal best time of 22:34 on the course.

When judged according to the age of the runner, this made him the highest achieving runner on the day.

The junior training sessions have now finished for 2015.

They will resume on January 5th.

The next senior Thursday evening training session will begin from Queen Elizabeth High School at 6.30pm.

Next Tuesday’s Christmas related session will start at DW Sport in Marshall’s Yard at 7.15 pm.

New runners, beginners and experienced, will be welcome.

Hi-visibility clothing needs to be worn.
