An academy have added an indoor hockey gong to their already bulging trophy cabinet.
For South Axholme Academy’s year seven girls have been celebrating this week after clinching the Scunthorpe Schools indoor hockey trophy.
The academy side, boasting several players from Epworth and Doncaster teams, first faced Fred Gough School. Despite a strong display, neither could be separated as a 0-0 draw ensued.
Neve Latham and Olivia Levesley were both on target in the academy’s next game - a 2-0 victory over Winterton - firing them into the semis.
Facing Baysgarth, a superb team performance saw the Latham twins - Neve and Hattie - dominate the midfield as Levesley supported in attack.
The academy won two short corners as Charlotte Gillis, Katy Braddock, Ellie Bee and Ellis Walker were strong at the other end. The game finished 0-0 but saw South Axholme qualify for the final on short corners. They were up against a strong Fred Gough team in the final, but saved their best performance until last.
Neve Latham and Levesley rifled in from short corners for 2-0 to see South Axholme lift the title with shot-stopper Kayleigh Rose not conceding a goal throughout.
