Gainsborough Under-13s Wasps rugby team collected their first silverware as they won the seconds final at the Scunthorpe Tour Festival.

In their first match against Barbarians the youngsters ran in four tries without reply.

Connor Brewster claimed two and Conner Bayley and Sam Warburton one.

Wasps lost 4-1 to Hinckley in their second match, despite taking the lead after a strong run by Lewis Cross.

Wasps then defeated Rotherham 5-1. Good tackling from Brewster and Archie Hunter led to turnover ball for Jacob Mcfarlane and a try for Cross. Cross then off-loaded for Louis Jaafar to score.

In the second period, good play was rewarded with a try, having driven over at a ruck controlled by Cian Vaughan, and an interception from Sam Warburton led to a score.

In the seconds final, Wasps defeated Clamart 2-1. Cross ran in a couple of tries.

Wasps are looking for more players in their first two years of senior school.

The team trains on Thursdays, from 6pm-7.30pm, and this Sunday, from 10am-noon, at the Roses sports ground, Gainsborough.

A summer camp is planned for 29th and 30th August at Roses, costing £25 for the two days, for youngsters in current years six, seven and eight.
