A Gainsborough table tennis club is celebrating an England call for one of their young players.

Blitz Table Tennis Club prospect Darcie Proud has been selected to represent her country at the Euro Mini’s Championship in France this summer.

Table Tennis England has named a squad of eight players to compete in Schiltigheim near Strasbourg from 28th to 30th August.

Proud will compete in the Under 12s girls competition, with team-mate and National champion Jasmin Wong.

Blitz head coach Paul Johnson lauded her achievements: “It has been a fantastic couple of weeks for Darcie.

“I don’t think it could get much better than picking up a bronze medal at the Nationals and then being selected to play in the European Mini’s which will be her first International.”

Johnson believes that Proud will not rest on her laurels.

“It is one thing to be selected to play for your country but a completely different thing to win for your country which is ultimately what we want to do,” he said.

“We shall be putting the hours in and working extremely hard to try and make this happen.”
