Jean Barnard’s Team 9 had a chance to win the Monday Daytime Triples League at West Lindsey Indoor Bowls Club, playing against Pat Flegg’s second placed Team 5.
They led 9-6 but then agonisingly dropped the last two ends, to lose 10-9.
Disappointingly for Pat Flegg’s team they needed to beat Jean Barnard’s team by eight shots to overtake them, so they cannot be champions.
Peter Mays’ Team 4 in third can now win the championship with a draw against Trevor Gaines’ Team 4, or else Jean’s team will win.
In the Wednesday Sets Trevor Gaines’ Team 5 beat Barry Grocock’s Team 1 by 4-2 (2 shots) but it was a pyrrhic victory as the two points dropped ensured that they could not win the championship.
That honour goes to Roy Marsh’s Team 2.
Trevor Gaines’ Team 5 are undefeated in seven to finish second and Pat Flegg’s Team 4 challenged for a long way but faded to be third.
Bob and Wendy Baines with Rosemary Woollard, Team 7, have won the Thursday pairs after beating Peter Taylor’s team 12 by 20-14.
Second place is still up for grabs with Alan Crookes’ Team 3 being slight favourites to overhaul Roy Marsh’s Team 5, and Bob Clifton’s Team 11.
The club held a pairs knockout on Sunday with teams playing four matches of six ends.
In a highly competitive event, no one won all of their matches so the top three were separated by shots difference.
The winners were S. and P. Carroll with six points and +15.
Second were Val Wright and Ted Mell with six points and +11, and third were Freda Allsopp and Barry Grocock with six points and +6.
Freda and Barry led after three matches but they then lost by seven shots.
