Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club’s speed judging event reached a finale on Sunday, with the fourth stage made challenging by a strong south westerly wind.

The time keeper was Paul Reynolds who directed the group to the speed judging circuit.

The six Aegir riders departed Roseway, heading out of Gainsborough then riding through Morton, arriving at Laughton Lane near the timber yard, the starting point of the speed judging course.

With watches, bike computers and mobile phones handed in to the timekeeper, the cyclists were set off to ride the circuit, a five mile circular route.

The course took riders along Laughton Road, turning left onto Carr Lane to East Stockwith, and turning left then riding through the village heading to Walkerith.

Riders headed towards Morton and turned left, returning to Laughton Lane to finish.

In first place was Daniel Nicholson, taking six points, after chosing three laps in 72 minutes and finishing the course in 72:16, just 16 seconds slow.

The result helped Nicholson to secure first place in the overall standings to take this year’s title.

Mark Clark was second after selecting two laps in 62:30 and finishing 3:53 slower than his elected time, earning five points.

Dave Chaffey chose three laps in 70 minutes and finished in 74:01 to take third place and four points.

Fourth place and three points went to Dave Walker, whose finishing time of 64:20 was 4:20 slow.

In fifth came Dave Day, finishing in 71 minutes for the three laps, six minutes slower than his predicted time.

And Trevor Halstead was 15 minutes slower than his predicted time of four laps in 75 minutes.

Overall results: Daniel Nicholson 18 points, Trevor Halstead 11.5, Peter Hanks 11, Dave Day 11, Mark Clark 11, Dave Chaffey 10, Dave Walker 7, Colin Smith 2.5.
