European karate champion Henna Shah dropped into Langold Dyscarr School to present children with their newly earned red belts and certificates.

The school began offering karate as part of the curriculum earlier this year, bringing in instructors Tony and Julie Baker.

Head teacher Angela Huthart said: “It’s very popular. The kids find it tough, but it’s meant to be difficult, it develops resilience and self discipline.”

“They respond well to moving through a grading system.”
