LTA confirms Davis Cup hero James Ward will play Aegon Open Nottingham ATP event in June

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has confirmed that British number two James Ward will feature at the Aegon Open Nottingham ATP event in June.

Ward has been in the spotlight recently thanks to his Davis Cup performances for Great Britain, including a stunning comeback against world number 20 John Isner, helping GB to a victory over the USA in Glasgow.

He will face another world class player field this summer, as Nottingham welcomes back some of the best in the world as they prepare for The Championships, Wimbledon.

The Aegon Open Nottingham will see two tournaments take place in June, the women’s WTA event from 8th to 14th June 2015, and the men’s ATP event from 22nd to 28th June 2015. Both tournaments will be an integral part of the new British grass court season, which in 2015 will see a three week window between Roland Garros and Wimbledon for the very first time.

The extended grass court season will enable some of the world’s very best players extra time to find their feet on grass and make the most of the very best grass-courts in the country.

Looking forard to the event Ward said: “I am really looking forward to returning to Nottingham this year for the Aegon Open Nottingham.”

“I have played in the ATP Challenger event in previous years and I have always had strong support from the crowds.”

“British players are well supported when we play at home venues and the incredible atmosphere at the Davis Cup tie in Glasgow against the USA shows the passion that is out there for tennis in this country. The crowd can make a real difference and I can’t wait to get out there again.”

The Aegon Open Nottingham (ATP) Tournament Director, Paul Hutchins welcomed the British number two’s involvement: “We are delighted that James has chosen to play the Aegon Open Nottingham as part of his preparations for Wimbledon.”

“It is great news that this tournament has a British player like him to get the home crowds excited for the return of top class tennis to the Nottingham Tennis Centre.”

“James’ performance at the recent Davis Cup match against the USA was thrilling and I hope the crowds will come out and support him and the other world class players that we hope to announce soon.”

Tickets to the Aegon Open Nottingham go on general sale on Tuesday 24th March at 10am.

An early bird discount will apply to all adult tickets bought before 28th April.

Customers purchasing before 28th April save £5 on all adult tickets.

Tickets start from just £10 for an adult and £5 for a child / student in the early bird window.
