LEE Westwood got off to a flying start at the WGC Accenture Match Play Championships in Arizona yesterday.
The Worksop golfer beat Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts 3&1, at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, in an event in which he has never progressed further than round three.
With world number one Luke Donald losing to Ernie Els, Westwood could reclaim the top spot in the rankings with victory this weekend.
Speaking ahead of his second round tie against Swede Robert Karlsson, Westwood said: “I played really well, I didn’t give a hole away, didn’t make a bogey.”
“It was a good, honest, solid match.”
