JUDO instructor Steve McConville has recently achieved his 5th Dan Black Belt in the sport.
Steve was introduced to judo at the age of 34 by his two children and, 28 years, later he is still going strong.
He started coaching in 1987 at Whiteswood Lane Judo Club and since then has started up a second club in Sturton-by-Stow, which has now been running for 20 years.
Each club has approximately 50 students, both junior and senior, covering various grades from Novice Red Belts to 3rd Dan Black Belts.
Steve has worked with people of all ages and abilities, helping them to build self-confidence and fitness and encouraging them to achieve their true potential in the sport.
This had led to former students being selected for the Great Britain Squad and the World Student Games.
Steve has also taught self defence to local businesses and in schools, and is currently teaching judo as an after-school activity at the local Trent Valley Academy.
Gainsborough training is held at West Lindsey Leisure Centre, Gainsborough, on Mondays from 6.30pm to 8pm for five years and upwards.
Adults classes are split at 7.30pm for those wanting advanced judo.
Sturton training is held on Thursday nights from 6pm to 7pm for 5 to 8-year-olds, 7pm to 8.30pm junior Yellow Belt upwards and seniors/adults at Sturton-by-Stow Village Hall. Session fee is £1.50.
