It has been a busy two week at Gainsborough table tennis club Blitz as the Summer League hots up.
The Summer League is continuing to provide both league players and complete beginners opportunities to enjoy match play against similar ability players on a weekly basis, every Thursday from 7.30pm-9pm.
Those wishing to practice prior to summer league can turn up from 6.30pm to finetune their game.
This week’s summer league saw a good turn out and some very competitive matches.
The stand out player this week was head coach Paul Johnson who was unbeaten all evening to put pressure on league leader John Mackey.
Other good displays included victories for Adam Gittings, Harry Tomlinson and Kieron Crawford.
There was a good display from Blitz player Amy Gittings at the recent Burton Uxbridge 2* competition coached by Blitz coach Kurt Hutson.
Amy started the day with the Cadet Girls competition, which was a very competitive event with strong opposition.
She started brilliantly with group wins over Hannah Ward, Madelaine Dunn and Ellie Blurton winning them all 3-0 without dropping a set.
In the quarter finals she came up against number two seed Lisa Rhinoffer. In a game that could have gone either way Amy was defeated 3-2 in a final set decider.
The afternoon saw Gittings go one better by reaching the Semifinal of the Junior Girls competition. In the group stages she won 3 out of 4 of her matches beating Georgia Harris, Rebecca Lowman and Amy Beastall and losing only to number one seed Hollie Williams 3-1. In the semifinal she played Hollie Holder, tournament winner, and went down 3-1 in a fighting display almost forcing a deciding fifth set.
Blitz Girls Blitz players Chloe Lingard, Amy Gittings, Darcie Proud and Hannah Ward will be heading down to Grantham this weekend to compete in the Junior British League Qualifiers event.
The club’s Friday night coaching sessions come to a close this Friday for the summer break and will be returning on Friday 4th September.
