Two Blitz Table Tennis Club players were in action in prestigious national competitions this week.

Darcie Proud competed in the Under 11s to under 14s National Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

In the Under 13 girls she reached the last 16 and beat Zoe Hewitt 3-2, before losing 3-1 to sixth seed Amelia Chan.

She did even better in the Under 12s, taking bronze after making the semi-finals.

Blitz head coach Paul Johnson said: “She has an extremely bright future ahead of her.”

Adam Gittings made the long journey to compete in the Glasgow Para Open tournament at Drumchapel TTC.

He returned victorious, taking the Open Class II title and the doubles, alongside Scotland’s Neil Innes.

He also reached the quarter-finals of the open singles, having dominated his group matches.

The Blitz Summer League saw some entertaining play this week.

Gittings, closely followed by John Mackey, were the standout players.

Special mention must go to Sam Phillips whose game is improving each week.

Anybody who would like to join the league, whether an absolute beginner or established league player, are welcome to attend every Thursday from 7.30pm to 9pm at The Gainsborough Academy.
