Gainsborough Maoris suffered a 17-7 defeat at local rivals Scunthorpe on Saturday, on a fine day.
In the final Merit League game of the season, Scunthorpe struck in the first 10 minutes to score.
However, the conversion failed to go over and the Maoris hit back to level through Daniel Chadwick’s score, Tom Parkinson converting.
In the second half both teams produced good defensive displays, but unfortunately for the Maoris, Scunthorpe would go on to run in three more tries with only one of them converted.
Gainsborough, whose Man of the Match was Michael Nicoll, have shown potential for the future with the developing youngsters making a statement of intent.
