Daytime Sets title still up for grabs

The Wednesday Daytime Sets League is still wide open with seven teams still having a realistic championship chance.

In keeping with the mood of the league the top two teams met and produced a draw when Pat Flegg’s Team 4 played Barry Grocock’s Team 1.

This result helps Ken Walker’s Team 2 and Rita Procter’s Team 8 who are five and six points behind but now with two games in hand.

Trevor Gaines’ Team 5 edged closer with a 4-2 (seven shots) win over Tom Dubber’s Team 3 who drop to seventh but still have a good chance.

Peter Taylor’s Team 7 climb into sixth with games in hand when winning 6-0 (23 shots) against Peter Brumpton’s Team 11 who are second bottom. Enid Underwood’s Team 6 had an overwhelming 6-0 (31 shots) win over Carol Booth’s Team 9 including winning the second set 21-0.

Bob & Wendy Baines and Rosemary Woollard (T7) have once again got one hand on the Thursday Pairs trophy.

They won 27-4 against Peter Carroll’s Team 13 to be five points clear of Ken Walker’s Team 5 ,who beat Barbara Coy’s Team 2 17-10

Barbara Allen’s Team 8 saw their championship hopes almost ended and drop to third after losing 16-10 to Ian Chapman’s Team 10 who are unbeaten in five.

Although the championship is just about wrapped up, second is up for grabs. Bob Clifton’s Team 11 had a 28-4 win over Carol Booth’s Team 14 who are bottom.

Chubby Clark’s Team 9, picked up their first win in seven by beating Peter Taylor’s Team 12 12-11.
