Comfortable wins for Worksop over South Yorkshire Police and Retford

SHEFFIELD DIVISION TWO

WORKSOP climbed to third in the table with two comfortable victories in seven days.

First came a 62-46 victory over a depleted South Yorkshire Police side, with Worksop led by 22 points from player-coach Steve Lawes.

This provided a confidence boost ahead of the much-anticipated showdown with local rivals Retford Raiders.

Worksop surged ahead in the opening quarter to lead 15-5 at the first break.

They heaped more misery on their Bassetlaw rivals in the second to go in 31-11 up at half-time.

Retford restored some pride to edge the third period 15-12 for a 43-26 scoreline at the final break.

However, Worksop remained in control and saw out the game for their biggest ever derby win, 55-35.

Mark Boot led the Worksop scoring with 19 points supported by Steve Lawes, 13.
