Two young teams from Blitz Table Tennis Club secured national league titles on home turf last weekend.
Going into the final day of the National Cadet League and National Junior League at Trent Valley Academy in Gainsborough, Blitz were sitting top of both competitions.
All they had to do was maintain their form and win their remaining matches to clinch the titles.
Blitz Cadet Under 15s took a huge step closer to the title after beating second placed Sycamore 5-4 in their first match.
From that moment on they never looked back, beating Market Rasen, Grimsby and Scunthorpe 6-3, claiming the title without losing a match.
Matthew Mudd stared for the cadet team on the final day, remaining undefeated throughout.
He was well supported by Ryan Mitchell, who only lost one, and by Sam Phillips.
Blitz Junior Under 18 team found the going a bit tougher, but had such a huge lead from the previous three day’s play, that the title was all but secured already.
They started off with a 9-0 win over Market Rasen, making themselves champions.
They then went on to play second placed Lincoln, who managed to beat the previously undefeated Blitz team 5-4, and with it taking Chris Gamble’s undefeated record.
Blitz finished the day with a solid 7-2 win over Scunthorpe, meaning that Chris Gamble finished top of the averages on 85 per cent, closely backed up by Harry Tomlinson on 74 and James Longstaff on 56.
A delighted Blitz coach Paul Johnson paid tribute to the teams’ support network.
“Thanks to everyone that helped out on the day and helped and supported the teams to their success.”
