Beckingham’s bowlers were in fine fettle last week, winning all four matches playedin the Gainsborough Bowls League.
The team finished their league programme with a comfortable win at Marshall Sports to take eight league points to Sports’ 2.
Beckingham won three rinks by 18, 11 and one shot respectively, but lost the other 33-13 after being level at 13 apiece.
This team victory earned them fourth place in the league with 107 points, just six behind Marshall A.
Two days later, they beat Marton & GB by 77 shots to 57 on Melrose’s green in the semi-final of the Kelsey Cup.
Beckingham easily won two rinks and lost two by just two and three shots respectively, and were due to play Marshall A in the final on Roses’ green on Wednesday (26th August).
The club’s Isle of Axholme Pensioners’ League players completed their 6th victory on the trot with an easy home win on 18th August over Rose A, taking both rinks for the maximum six league points.
This late surge in the second half of the season has come too late to win the league, but with one match left, they could take third spot.
After a long run of defeats, the Club’s I. of A. Evening League team pulled off an excellent home win over Owston Ferry on 21st August.
They won all three rinks for a 10 points to 0 victory. They still have two fixtures to fit in, and the club’s season will finish on 5th September with the Club Triples.
The green will still be open for “roll ups” until 20th September. The following day, the green will be verti drained and then re-seeded by direct drilling, as was the case last September, contributing to an excellent playing surface.
