CORRINGHAM CE and Parish Church Primary Schools were celebrating at the Gainsborough and District Primary Schools Sports Association’s annual swimming gala.

Corringham took victory in both Small School categories, while the famous ‘Major Bell’ for the overall champions went to Parish Church.

Elaine Fillingham, teaching assistant at Corringham, was delighted with the boys and girls teams’ success.

She told the Standard: “We’re so pleased and proud of all the children who took part, winning the girls and boys sections.”

“A special mention has to go to Ethan, 10, who came first in the Championships in the front crawl.”

Corringham were fourth overall, with 12 schools taking part in the gala.

A spokesperson for Parish Church said: “It was an unbelieveable feeling to win the coveted trophy and be crowned Gainsborough and District Overall Champions.”

Nearly 200 supporters turned out to cheer the youngsters on.

Organiser John Anderson, a teacher from North-County Primary, said the evening went ‘swimmingly’.

He said: “A turnout of 12 schools made the atmosphere superb and I have to thank all the other teachers who volunteered to ensure that primary school sport in Gainsborough continues to lead the way in the county.”

North-County’s backstroke champion Shannon Conway added: “It was fantastic to win and get a medal, especially with all my school friends cheering.”
