Win for Roses over local rivals
AFTER a seven-week break from games Roses Hockey Club men's first team resumed their league campaign against local rivals Lincoln.
A dominant Roses took the lead through N. White and he scored again via a well-worked short corner routine.
The game started to become slightly irate with niggly tackles and as a result both sides received some cards.
M. Davies secured the three points for Roses with another fine goal from a short corner.
This win now leaves them second in the table one point behind Harrogate with a game in hand.
After winning the first league encounter in October against Lincoln, Roses 2nds were confident of making it two wins out of two against their local league rivals.
Roses took the lead within the first minute and never looked in danger of conceding and ran out 9-0 winners with goals from R. Watts, O. Edwards, D. Ott, G. Watkins, A. Mountain (three) and S. Okey (two).
This leaves the 2nds third in the table three points behind Leeds who currently fill the second promotion place behind Grimsby. Next week see's Roses take on mid-table Acomb.
Roses 3rds were up against Leeds who had turned Roses over 3-0 prior to Christmas.
It was 2-2 at to the break but after a topsy turvy game Roses finally ran out 5-3 winners with goals from A. Cook, N. Newbold, N. Gerrard, M. Ingram and A. Foster.
This now leaves them in second place in the table and looking good for promotion.
Roses 4ths travelled to Leeds hoping to continue their fine form against difficult opponents and never really looked in trouble cruising to a 5-1 victory with goals from A. Broadberry, R. Thompson, A. Snow and J. Barry-MCcann (two).
This leaves them second in Division Nine behind Barnsley who they face next week.
Roses Ladies 1sts entertained City of Peterborough in their East League 2NW encounter.
Peterborough were one place above Roses in the standings and this was a must win match for the local side.
Roses started the stronger side and scored two quick goals which killed off Peterborough's spirits and Roses went on to comfortably win 5-1 with goals from J. Bixley, R. Hart, S. Upton and V. Poole (two).
They now sit above Peterborough in the table and will be looking to build on this result to lift them from eighth to the top six.
With Bourne withdrawing from the league Roses are now virtually safe from relegation and have no game next week.
Roses Ladies 2nds drew with second-place Skegness after losing 1-0 to them before Christmas when they scored in the last few minutes.
This time Roses scored early on in the first half through Thea Wilson but conceded a goal to a penalty flick.
Next week they play Lincoln 2nds in the Lincolnshire Green League.
