Westwood settles for sixth place

LEE Westwood shot an incredible 11 under par 61 in the third round of the WGC HSBC Champions event in China last week, but had to settle for a sixth place finish after a disappointing final effort.

Following an opening round of 70 at the Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzhen, Westwood found himself in 19th place.

Four more birdies on day two and just one bogey gave him a 69 and moved him up to 12th on the leader board.

Saturday was a special day for the Worksop golfer as he posted six birdies on the front nine and followed up with five more on the back nine to give him a share of the lead.

In the final round two early birdies gave him a good start but a double bogey at the par three fifth set him back. In the final 13 holes he had three birdies and three bogies to close the event with a level par 72 for a total of 270, 18 under par.

Westwood’s fellow Worksop Golf Club export Mark Foster returns to the European Tour this week in the Barclays Singapore Open at the Sentosa Golf Club.
