Trinity hope to be at the races in derby

GAINSBOROUGH Trinity took time out from pre-season training to spend a day at the races, as part of manager Brian Little's team-building strategy for the new season.

Trinity face stiff competition from local opposition in their final two warm-up games against Worksop Town tonight and Boston United this weekend.

But Little told the Standard his players have been 'relaxing' this week after a hard week of training.

"We trained well last week and had a relaxing day out at the Doncaster races on Saturday."

He added: "There's still quite a lot of work to do, but the focus is there and so far everything is going to plan."

Little will get his first taste of a local derby atmosphere at non-league level, with two gruelling matches in three days.

The Blues play Worksop this evening with former player Ryan Mallon making his return to the Northolme.

Then on Saturday, Gainsborough take on the Pilgrims and ex-winger Ryan Semple for a place in the Lincolnshire County Cup final.

While Little hopes his players avoid injury, the Trinity boss also hopes his side can get one over on their neighbours.

"It will be nice for some sort of bragging rights. Derby games are derby games at all levels, but it's good to have that rivalry and we'll take it as it comes."
