Table tennis: Corinthians lose unbeaten run

TOP of the table Blues Corinthians finally lost their unbeaten run when they went down 8-2 to Co-op Eagles.

For Eagles John Gazeley made no mistake in his three rubbers, Gary Adlington won two hard-fought four-enders and Simon Haigh played out of his skin in the final rubber of the night to record a victory against Ian Brooks over five ends.

A two-man Blues Phoenix team consisting of father and son Barry and Rob lamb had no problems overcoming Blues Kestrels to keep their hopes alive of a first division place.

Corinthians could also only field two men in their match against Liberal Dynamics and had to be content with a draw, Mark Rogers for Dynamics showing true grit by beating both Kev Fisher and Ian Brooks.

Results: Co-op Eagles 8 (Simon Haigh 2, John Gazeley 3, Gary Adlington 2, plus doubles), Blues Corinthians 2 (Terry Green 2).

Knaith Park Knights 3 (by default), Liberal Beacons 7 (Wally Kingston 3, Dave Brumpton 3, plus doubles).

Blues Phoenix 7 (Rob Lamb 3, Barry Lamb 3, plus doubles), Blues Kestrels 3 (by default).

Blues Corinthians 5 (Kev Fisher 2, Ian Brooks 2, plus doubles), Liberal Dynamics 5 (Mark Rodgers 2, 3 by default).

Methodist Batmen 1 (Tom Lovely), Co-op Bluebirds 9 (Steve Johnson 2, Jacob Marshall 3, Jamie Cook 3, plus doubles).

Team captains will be informed of the league structure regarding the second half of the season.
