Fifteen Striders took part in the City of Hull Athletic Club’s early season Ferriby 10 race last weekend
Competitors tackled an undulating road-based course with some challenging climbs and punishing descents across its 10-mile length.
With freezing temperatures, the club’s distance debutantes, including Jamie Lee, Stacy Lyner and Donna Cook, had picked a difficult event to test their mettle.
A strong field of 559 runners broke quickly from the start, Gainsborough runners Jerome McCulla and Paul Dagg facing a self-imposed handicap with a starting position some 200 metres behind the line when the klaxon went, but they soon caught up with club colleagues Steven Gaffney and Tom Humphries towards the front of the field
McCulla was first Strider home in 23rd position (60-47), with Dagg delivering a personal best performance of 64-25 to come in next in 56th place.

Lyner and Cook completed their first 10-miler together in 84 minutes, while other performances of real note included Jane Catley in the F50 category on 83-21 and Julian Hesp on 80-54.
The Gainsborough and Morton 10k takes place on 4th March and is only £10/£12 to enter. With a limit of 500 runners, prospective competitors should enter quickly to avoid disappointment.
If you’d like to join the Striders for a training run these cater for every runner from novice onwards, every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, including a ladies session.
