SIMON BIRD: PLAY ME OR I'LL LEAVE

GAINSBOROUGH Trinity forward Simon Bird has said he wants regular football, and would consider looking away from the Northolme to achieve it.

Bird returned from a successful loan spell at North Ferriby – which saw him score three goals in eight appearances – to score Trinity's equaliser in the 2-1 defeat to AFC Telford on Saturday.

He said: "I'm really pleased to score, but we are disappointed to lose."

"They are a solid unit at the back, and I thought we did alright and maybe deserved something better."

Bird managed to follow up Lewis McMahon's saved penalty, and this was his first goal since a hat-trick against Alfreton in October.

"I gambled that the keeper would save it and managed to slot it under him," he said.

Speaking about his loan spell, Bird expressed his desire for regular football.

"It was brilliant, I loved it," he said. "I was playing regularly and they were a great bunch of lads with a good manager and we played some good football."

"Next season I want to play regular football, and whether I can do that here or elsewhere I can't really say."

Trinity are on the road on Saturday to title-chasing Gateshead. Trinity are looking to end a run of eight games without a win, but title hopefuls Gateshead will provide a stern test for Steve Charles' men, as they look to bounce back from a 4–1 defeat at the hands of Stafford Rangers.

This was a defeat which was labelled as 'embarrassing' by their boss Ian Bogie, as the North East side look to close down leaders Tamworth in the title hunt.

Trinity are again sweating on the fitness of Danny Anson and Liam Needham.

Anson is still troubled by the hip injury that forced him off in the second half at Vauxhall Motors, while Needham has been struggling with a chest problem.

Hyde again provide the Bank Holiday opposition, as they visit the Northolme on Easter Monday. (3pm).

Trinity travelled to Tameside in August, and gained a point in a dour 0–0 draw.

This game saw Trevor Benjamin's only start in a Trinity shirt.

The Tigers have secured two vital wins this week, beating both Hinckley and Blyth by a single goal as they look to stave off relegation.
