SUNDAY saw the much anticipated memorial match fished in memory of Dave ‘Blue’ Wright.
The event was, as expected, a sell out even on a cold November day.
The fishing proved to be hard due to clear water conditions but it did not deter from the usual camaraderie and good natured banter, as anglers paid their respects to a true character and good friend.
John Oldfield claimed the honors on peg 1 weighing 34lb 10oz of mainly carp tempted on pole and maggot, with Shane Hodgkiss in the runners positition on peg 4 with 28lb 9oz.

The main business was to raise funds for the chosen charity of Blue’s family, the Macmillan Nurses Fund.
Mick Shaw and plenty of others went the extra mile in their efforts and a grand total of £1100 was collected on the day with Bev, Dave’s widow, giving a big thank you to Lynda and Steve and the team at Lakeside for donating all the pegging fees and cafe takings on the day, Ken Ward and everyone who contributed to the collection in the shop, Shaws for Sheds of Rotherham, and all the competitors who turned up on the day and dug deep.
The final part of the day was the highlight when Bev and Lynda presented the Dave’s Dipper trophy to the winner to round off a memorable occasion,
