GAINSBOROUGH Rotary Club has offered financial backing to a local gymnastics club.
Four-time British Gymnastics champion Stacey Ridley was a guest at last week’s Rotary Club meeting, representing Apex Gymnastics Club.
The gymnasts, based at Gainsborough Leisure Centre, formed a club 18 months ago – and now have 45 members.
Rotary Club publicity offier Ray Woollard told the Standard why the gymnasts needed help, and how the Rotary Club could assist them.
“Sadly, like many other organisations, finance and adequate premises are a major problem,” he said.
“Ideally they would like to find a centre of their own where equipment can be stored and used as and when required.”
“Clothing such as track suits, leotards and t-shirts, in addition to a track, mats and poles are needed, particularly if members are to compete at the highest level commensurate with their ability.”
“They would also like to be able to perform at local functions where they can display their skills and attract support.”
“The Rotary Club takes the view that Apex are providing an extremely valuable service to the community, providing both a healthy and worthwhile outlet for young people.”
“They propose to assist Apex by financing the cost of equipment, namely a track and t-shirts and look forward to seeing their members perform at a Rotary event.”
Anyone interested in sponsoring the gymnasts can contact the club by email at apex-academy@hotmail.com
