RESHUFFLE FOR GAINSBOROUGH TRINITY
GAINSBOROUGH Trinity have continued to shuffle the pack, allowing midfielder Ian Ross to leave the club.
Manager Steve Charles has one eye on next season already, and has given Ross permission to join Alfreton Town for the rest of this campaign.
The news follows the departure of Bobby Wilson, while three members of the squad have been told they are free to seek other clubs.
Ross had a limited impact at the Northolme, taking some time to adjust to the more physical side of football in the Blue Square North.
The 23-year-old had begun to cement a regular place in the side, but after picking up an injury, ironically against Alfreton, he failed to regain his place in the side.
Charles expressed his disappointment at Ross' performances, saying: "Hand on heart, I don't think he has done as well as I had hoped."
"In this league it is physical and you need people who will put their foot in."
Ross' return to the side was also hindered by Liam Needham's return to fitness.
The former Sheffield United player made his debut for Alfreton on Saturday, coming on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw at Vauxhall Motors.
And it is the Motormen who provide the opposition for Trinity on Saturday.
Gainsborough make the trip to Vauxhall Motors, who overtook the Blues when they took three points at home to Hyde on Tuesday night.
Vauxhall's win pushed Trinity into the bottom half of the table.
A recent dip in form has seen Charles' men fail to win in their last six attempts.
Trinity failed to beat Vauxhall when they visited the Northolme in August, when a last minute goal secured a draw for the visitors.
Trinity's recent run has also coincided with the absence of Lewis McMahon.
The front man has been sidelined with an ankle injury picked up against Stalybridge Celtic.
Charles hopes McMahon will be available again this weekend.
He said: "I'm not sure about Lewis until after training on Thursday. I had thought he would be okay for last week."
Trinity have also been boosted by the return of captain Danny Anson, who made the team on Saturday against Redditch.
Charles is faced with a selection dilemma over who will wear the goalkeeper's shirt against Vauxhall.
Trinity have signed former Scunthorpe United keeper Tom Evans from Alfreton on a month's loan.
Evans made over 200 appearances for Scunthorpe in a nine-year spell at the club, has also played for York City, and is a Northern Ireland B international.
The deal was necessitated after regular keeper Adam Sollitt called in sick with flu on Saturday morning.
Evans played against Trinity when the Blues tore through nine-man Alfreton, handing them a 4-1 drubbing.
Evans made a solid debut against Redditch on Saturday.
