ON Sunday 17th November Welbeck Abbey Bowls Club held their AGM, which saw the appointment of a new chairman.

The retiring Chairman is John Pollard, a well known figure in the bowls world.

John joined Welbeck Club in 1977 and has held the position of chairman for the last 30 years, and his vast knowledge of the game has been invaluable to the club old and new members alike.

Not only has he been associated with Welbeck but was also at different times, secretary and also treasurer of the Derbyshire County Bowls Federation, and is now a life member.

He is also a Life Member of the English Bowling Federation and now a life member of Welbeck Bowls Club.

On Saturday 24th November 2012 John will be celebrating his 86 birthday and feels that it is time for a younger person to take the reigns.

In recognition of his devoted service John Bishop, the new Chairman presented John Pollard with a watch on behalf of the membership of the club, together with a floral arrangement for his wife Joan.

John will still be seen around the club and playing the occasional match.

The club is now able to offer a limited number of vacancies for anyone wishing to join around April. Beginners are especially welcome. Contact Maureen on 01909 477744.
