Midtown U16s find the going tough
ONLY four Midtown teams were in action last weekend, and those without fixtures would have been secretly pleased as the cold weather made it very unpleasant for those who braved the conditions.
After a three-week break the U12s returned to action against higher division App-Frod Saints, in a Jack Kalson Saturday League U12s Trophy first round fixture that was switched to the Scunthorpe ground as Midtown's pitch was unfit.
The home side's quality was equally matched with Midtown's grit and determination, coupled with another superb performance from Man of the Match Matthew Tillen in goal.
A fine individual goal from Corey Harrison was just reward for their efforts in the first period as he beat two defenders before coolly slotting into the corner.
Trailing 2-1 at the interval, Midtown were hoping to cause an upset but the hosts produced some excellent football and scored a further six to progress through, but the scoreline was harsh on Midtown.
Unbeaten in competitive fixtures this season, the U13s travelled to Winterton to face Dale Park from a higher division in a friendly match.
Jordan Fields was once again outstanding and two first half goals gave his side the advantage, with the home side managing one in reply.
This fixture allowed the management to look at other options in personnel and it proved fruitful with Declan Leedle and Tom Birkitt forming a solid defensive partnership.
The second period saw Midtown dominate the chances but failure to convert cost them at the final whistle as concentration and fitness seemed to play a part in the last 10 minutes, and Dale Park scored twice for the 3-2 win.
In the Jack Kalson Sunday League the U16s are finding life very tough in their first season together.
Travelling to play Winterton Rangers Juniors they were outplayed and outclassed in a 14-0 defeat.
Asha Harrison did have a well-taken goal dubiously ruled out by the linesman's flag, the only time they managed an effort directly on goal.
After last week's disappointment of not winning, the U10s welcomed Epworth Town in the Caparo Junior League and the youngsters played very well, but lost 5-1 to some fine finishing.
Reece Cronshaw scored for the second week running as he finished a well worked passing move involving Jake Connelly and Alex Danville, while Ashley Gregory gave a very creditable performance overshadowed only by Man of the Match Ryan Hobson.
Fixtures: U9s v Gainsborough Trinity (A); U10s v Barton Juniors (H); U11s v Blyton Bombers (A); U12s v Crosby United (H); U13s v Normanby Park (A).
