Melrose win Hazel Lawrence Trophy
Gainsborough Standard Bolws League Champions Scotter
THE Gainsborough Bowls League season came to an end at Roses on Sunday with the final the 10-a-side Hazel Lawrence Trophy between Melrose SSC and 2011 league champions Scotter 1.
Melrose captain Alan Revill as usual took on the singles and had an inspired game to crush Les Savage 25-4).
Consequently, the other Scotter 1 rinks were always up against it trying to make up the deficit.
The other three rinks were all highly competitive, close games right until near the end when Melrose managed to get in front to win all four rinks and win 74-44.
Melrose have had a very good season as they also won the Knockout Shield and the Kelsey Cup.
The Garner Shield was also concluded last week when Misterton and Rose A comfortably beat Marton GB and North Wheatley, respectively, to meet in the final at Marshalls.
The game was close in the first few ends but Misterton drew into a comfortable lead in the middle of the game and finished 85-66 winners.
In the league the Lincoln Co-op v Rose A game may or may not take place but it cannot be an agreed draw as this would make Misterton the bottom club which would not be fair to them.
