Marshalls slump to 80-run defeat
MARSHALLS firsts' faltering form in the Bassetlaw Cricket League Championship continued when they suffered an 80-run defeat at Glapwell on Saturday.
The hosts posted a total of 240 for five with Bircumshaw hitting an unbeaten century, and Marshalls' reply fell well short as they were bowled out for 160 despite a defiant 59 from James Deacon.
This leaves them third, three points behind second-placed Farnsfield, with just one game left to play.
North Wheatley with Leverton claimed their second successive victory when they beat visitors Thoresby Colliery by six wickets.
Thoresby were bowled out for 185, thanks mainly to Jamie Bovill who finished with seven for 34, and then a 77 from Jon Loates and 43 not out from Steve Hallows saw them through to a comfortable win.

Lea Park captain Matt Housham won the toss and elected to bat, and Chris Needham was the first man to go for nought in the fourth over with the score on just three.

Two more wickets fell and with score on 132 for seven Lea felt they were still in with a good chance. However, Nathan Singleton (28 not out) and Ed Tofts (20 not out) completed the victory for Retford.
For Lea, Andy Dewick bowled well with four for 41 from 13 overs and Nick Boulton with his slow left arm spinners took two for 44 off 12.3 overs.
Elsewhere in Division Two, Wiseton beat Teversal by seven wickets, easing past their opponents' total of 215 thanks to a century from Taylor Pentecost, while leaders Everton surprisingly lost by nine wickets at home to Ordsall Bridon.
In Division Four, Marshalls 2nds did a little better than their seniors when they managed a losing draw at home to Bawtry.
The visitors scored 221 for eight, and in reply Marshalls were 50 runs short of the win on 172 for four, Haydn Green top-scoring with an unbeaten 54.
